The Oakland Police Department has been under investigation since 2003(http://www.baycitizen.org/policing/story/judge-strips-power-oakland-police/) for their corruption. Most of the country just sees the violence now and has no idea about the violence in the past.

I bring this up because I lived near there for most of my life. I also worked and went to school there for more than 3 years. I have seen first hand the corruption of OPD and am not surprised at all by what has happened. I am saddened and outraged by it, but not surprised.

I think if other occupys knew more about the history of the OPD they would be more likely to understand and stand in solidarity with Occupy Oakland.
