The Occupy Austin Occuqueers attended a Stonewall Rally at the Texas State Capitol today. It was attended by about 75 people on a wiltingly hot summer day. A couple of the speakers tried to get the crowd roused, but the energy was a far cry from the events that started this day – and a much smaller attendance than the Queerbomb street party earlier this month. I did enjoy hearing a recitation of the history of Stonewall — I hadn’t heard or had forgotten about the drag queens throwing pennies at police.
Despite the shortcomings of modern Pride, it was nice to be there though & our banner was quite popular with the crowd.
