Last weekend, I talked with photojournalist Zach Roberts of VisuNews about my recent essay on why we need to stop protesting at empty buildings and become more strategic about our activism.
We also talked about our work as journalists, and our involvement with past movements like Occupy Wall Street.
Since I published the essay, I’ve seen three or four, maybe close to a half dozen protests in Austin, all scheduled for the same place: the Texas Capitol. None of them seem to be directly addressing what’s happening inside our legislature, and these are totally separate from upcoming “visit your legislator days” being arranged by local nonprofits. It’s unsurprising, but a bit frustrating, and I really hope Austin organizers start finding near targets and being more creative about their actions.
Thanks again to Zach for having me on.
