TODAY is Sex Toy Day

Posted in Life

Update Nov 4: Sex Toy Day is today. The give-away is happening Today beginning at 11am est.

Your shiny new rocket.

Tomorrow mypleasure.com, one of the vendors for whom I write sex toy reviews, is sponsoring Sex Toy Day. They will be giving away 1,000 free ‘pocket rocket’ style vibrators starting at 11am EST on November 4th. The vibrators have a little logo on them, but otherwise they are absolutely free including shipping.

Clearly, they are hoping for a nice boost in publicity — and then in sales — from this promotion. But I think this project is worth publicizing. While many of the people who order a toy will already be highly orgasmic sex toy fans, I hope a lot of them will end up in the hands of those who are much less experienced.

Even amongst seemingly liberated groups, I’m continually reminded of how much stigma and fear remain around sex toys and even female orgasm. One smart, sexy, kinky woman from the local Burner scene recently lamented that all of her male sexual partners have been intimidated by her sex toys, and how she’d “never” expect to use one with a partner as a result. Once upon a time it never would have occurred to me to think that there are people out there intimidated by something as harmless and fun as a vibrator, yet I know from experience that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Maybe I just haven’t talked to enough of them about the topic, but the path to orgasm seems to follow one of a fairly limited number of paths for cisgendered men. On the other hand, the women I’ve talked to are all over the place. Some can remember masturbating as toddlers; others I know didn’t have their first orgasms till their late 20s. One of the few common denominators is that all of them, at some point, had to deliberately seek out better self-knowledge in order to have more fulfilling sex lives.

Even now, even amongst your fellow freaks, ignorance, impatience, fear and shame are preventing your friends from getting all the pleasure they deserve. As a hedonist, I believe that the pursuit of pleasure is among life’s noblest aims. I believe that the more pleasure that my friends and loved ones are having, the more there is in the world for us all to experience.

The pocket rocket isn’t fancy — it’s shape and size are relatively non-threatening, it’s easy to operate, and you can even take it in the bath (if you’re careful not to open it by accident). It doesn’t have the power of an electric vibrator, or the flashy hype that surrounds the rabbit or the latest offering from JimmyJane.  It’s actually a great starter vibe. In fact I encourage all of you to order one and, if you don’t need it, pass it on to a friend who needs a little more pleasure.

And if there’s any men reading this who are threatened by sex toys and the pleasure they might bring the women in their lives — grow a pair, get a vibe, and learn about the fun it can bring you both.
